REGULATIONS

 

The 23rd International Print Biennial - Varna 2025 is organized by the Municipality of the City of Varna, the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture, the Union of Bulgarian Artists and is patronized by the Mayor of the City of Varna.

 

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

 

1. To present achievements of the world graphic art.

2. To promote artistic activities and to encourage contacts among artists from all over the world.

 

TIME AND PLACE

 

1. The 23rd International Print Biennial - Varna 2025 will be opened on 14th August 2025 at 18.00 pm at “Boris Georgiev” Varna City Art Gallery.

2. The deadline for submitting the digital application form is 19th March 2025. After you apply here, your work/s will be viewed by Selection Jury 2025. This is the Primary selection.

  3. Primary selection of the submitted applications is from 25th March to 15th April 2025.

  4. The selected artists will be informed by email to 29th April 2025. The list with names will be also published here.

  5. Selected artist should download the LABEL and follow the instructions for sending in TERMS OF PARTICIPATION. The selected artworks ​should be sent to the following address:

​DEADLINE for receiving the selected artworks in the gallery is 15th June!

  6. From 2nd to 4th June the Selection Jury makes the Final quality approval of the primary selection in the gallery. 

  7. From 12th to 13th August the International Jury awards the Prizes!

  8. The Great Opening of the International Print Biennial Varna is on 14th August, 18.00pm

  9. The end of the exhibition is 30th September 2025

TERMS OF PARTICIPATION

 

1. No participation fee is required.

2. Each participant can present maximum two works created within the last 2 years in a CLASSICAL TECHNIQUES /EXCLUDING PRINTER/. Works’ format should be not larger than 80x120 cm and not smaller than 20x20 cm.

3. BACK SIDE OF EACH WORK MUST BEAR A LABEL WITH ARTIST’S NAME AND THE TITLE OF THE WORK. THOSE SHOULD BE LEGIBLY FILLED IN BLOCK LETTERS IN ENGLISH. Please, download the label from this page.

4. All works should be sent in tubes, not framed.

5. All tubes should bear labels „PRINTED MATTERS” and „NO COMMERCIAL VALUE”.

6. All artists should state in their application form their agreement or disagreement that their works are for sale and also fix prices in BGN or EURO. All data the application form contains shall be included in the catalogue as well as other publications related to the Biennial.

7. Signing the application form will be considered as an acceptance of the Regulations of the Biennial.

8. All works for participation in the exhibition and the catalogue are selected by a selection jury. 

9. Works of artists invited as special guests are not subject to selection.

10. All charges incurred for transportation the works to Bulgaria shall be borne by the artists while the return charges shall be covered by the organizers.

11. The organizers shall not be liable for any damages that may occur during transportation of the works.

12. Should they wish so, the artists may insure their works.

 

PRIZES

 

The international jury of the 23rd International Print Biennial- Varna 2025 will award prizes, as follows:

 

1. GRAND PRIX of the City of Varna – 2000 EURO

The winner of the Grand Prix will be invited to hold a solo exhibition during the next International Print Biennial. All expenses related to organizing the solo exhibition as well as those for publishing the solo catalogue shall be covered by the organizers.

1. Special award of the international jury – 1500 EURO

2. Three equal prizes – 1000 EURO

3. Small Graphic Award - 500 EURO

4. Emerging Artist Award - 350 EURO

5. Prizes awarded by cultural institutions, organizations and sponsors.

PURCHASES

 

1. Purchases shall be made at prices fixed by the artists in their application form. They shall be paid in BGN or EURO respectively.

2. The sum will be deposited at the bank account of the Biennial and can be withdrawn by the artist upon presentation of a purchase document.

3. The organizers retain 20% commission of the price of each work.

4. Should they wish so, the artists could make a donation to the Biennial. The works will become a part of the Graphic Gallery fund collection which traditionally takes part in various exhibitions in Bulgaria and abroad.

 

ADDITIONAL PROVISIONS

 

1. The LABEL should be legibly filled in BLOCK LETTERS IN ENGLISH.

2. Each participant receives a free catalogue.

3. In case that works are sent back due to inaccurate address, after two years the organizers will assume that artists have abandoned ownership of their works.

4. The organizers reserve the right to take photographs of the works and publish them in catalogues as well as for mass media and advertising purposes.
